Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaking. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips which include commentary on gender representations in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates female representations in popular stories of culture - was created and directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to break down the stereotypes associated with women in pop culture, she is a vocal advocate for issues relating to targeted exploitation of women and the other marginalized groups of people in the online space. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the fields of social thought and political science at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaking. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identities and feminisms from at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the University. The ambitious lady planned to create an online program that would examine gender representation in games, however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. This attack didn't stop her, but instead strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards in recognition of her many significant contributions to the world of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media journalist. She was also the director and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores pop culture depictions of women.
